The Faroe Islands full members of NordForsk

From 1 January 2023 the Faroe Islands have full membership in the Nordforsk Board.

NordForsk is an organisation under the Nordic Council of Ministers that provides funding for and facilitates Nordic cooperation on research and research infrastructure.

The Faroe Islands have had Observer Status in the NordForsk Board since 2005.

It has been a long standing political wish in the Faroe Islands to obtain full membership in the Board.

In March 2022, Mr. Jenis av Rana, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture, submitted an application to the Nordic Council of Ministers on behalf of the Faroe Islands. In the application, the Faroe Islands highlighted the intentions and opportunities for the Faroe Islands to participate more actively in the Nordic Research Cooperation. The application was submitted with reference to the Aaland Declaration from 2017.

In late December 2022, it was announced that the Faroe Islands have been granted full membership on the NordForsk Board.

Annika Sølvará, Head of Reseach Council Faroe Islands, will continue on the Board, now as full member.

The next step for the Faroe Islands will be to participate with cofunding in NordForsk Open Initiatives.
