MARiNAO Has Created New Knowledge on Marine Research

Marine researchers from Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Denmark who have received grants from the  MARiNAO research programme gathered in Tórshavn on March 1st and 2nd for their fourth annual meeting. At the meeting results from the research projects were presented and researchers involved in the projects developed ideas for new projects and cooperation.  

The MARiNAO programme is funded by the Danish government and administered by Research Council Faroe Islands. The aim of the programme is to generate new knowledge on the marine environment in the North Atlantic Ocean and to promote cooperation between the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Denmark on marine research.  

13 research projects have so far received MDKK 44.4 in funding from the MARiNAO programme.

The participants at the annual meeting agreed that the MARiNAO programme had made a great difference. Several reseach projects have been carried out which had otherwise not been possible and new collaborations across geographical and professional boundaries have emerged.  

Unn Laksá, CEO at Blue Resource (Sjókovin) gave a keynote speech about how we can turn knowledge into value, and a visit was made to the Whaling Station at Áir.
