Cooperation Forum on Faroese Research

Research institutes in the Faroe Islands have established a cooperation forum for Faroese research.

Martin Tvede Zachariassen, Rector for the University of the Faroe Islands, is very pleased with the new forum:

- The forum will strengthen cooperation between research institutes in the Faroe Islands and will enable us to speak with one voice towards the political authority and research funders in the Faroe Islands and abroad, he says to setur.fo.

The initiative started in spring 2023 after a discussion between Faroese research institutes and Research Council Faroe Islands about how to come up with joint efforts in order to identify and prioritise research actions and fields.

It was decided that the University of the Faroe Islands should set up a meeting for public research institutes to discuss joint actions, topics and recommendations to the political authority.

On this meeting which was held on November 1st it was decided that each institute should appoint one representative from the management to participate in the Cooperation forum for Faroese Research which will be led by the University of the Faroe Islands.

The Council for Research, Development and Innovation has recently announced eigth recommendations which directly and indirectly effect research institutes in the Faroe Islands. One of the recommendments is that the University of the Faroe Islands should be the centre for research, development and innovation.
