WEFTA Conference

Tuesday 15.10.2019, 09:00, Hotel Føroyar, Tórshavn

The 49th West European Fish Technologists Association (WEFTA) Conference is taking place in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands from the 15 - 17 October 2019.

The organisers are WEFTA, Fisheries Research Fund of the Faroe Islands and the Faroese Ministry of Fisheries.

The Faroe Islands have been active in WEFTA since the end of the 1970´s and this is the second time the Faroe Islands have hosted the WEFTA conference. The first time was in 2000.

The WEFTA conference provides a valuable platform for food scientists, PhD students and fish processing industries to present their latest research achievements and share valuable experiences in the field of fish industry and aquatic products, quality and safety.

One very important aim of the WEFTA conferences is to encourage young researchers (PhD students etc.) to participate and present their own work. Industry participation is also important for WEFTA, therefore we have also invited representatives from the fish processing industries to join the conference and to share their success stories and take part in discussions and challenges.

The theme for this year's conference is “Blue Value Creation, Bioeconomy, Health and Safety” and we invite submissions for communications under priority areas:

  • Value creation from pelagic and demersal fish species (Industry Session)
  • Sustainable aquaculture – healthy production today and in the future
  • Zero waste production and biorefining
  • Health effects of seafood consumption and promotion of marine-based food
  • Factories of the future
  • Seafood safety and authenticity
  • Micro and macroalgae and future applications

The submission deadline for abstracts is June 3rd. Please check the conference website for more info wefta2019.com
