International cooperation

Research Council Faroe Islands participates in several international cooperation programmes.

Horizon 2020

The Faroe Islands have been part of the European research community on an equal basis as member states and other associated countries since 2010.

In 2014 the Faroe Islands and the European Commission initialled the new research cooperation agreement which makes the Faroe Islands an associated country to Horizon 2020.

Research Council Faroe Islands hosts the National Contact Points services which is part of the Horizon 2020 agreement. 

ERAC

ERAC (European Research Area Committee) is a strategic policy advisory body whose function is to assist the European Commission and the Council of the European Union in performing the tasks incumbent on these institutions in the sphere of research and technological development.

All research councils in EU member states and other countries participating in the EU research cooperation are represented in ERAC.

The Faroe Islands have observer status in ERAC. Annika Sølvará, director of Research Council Faroe Islands, represents the Faroe Islands in ERAC.

ESFRI 

ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) is a strategic instrument to develop the scientific integration of Europe and to strengthen its international outreach.

All research councils in EU member states and other countries participating in the EU research cooperation are represented in ESFRI.

The Faroe Islands have observer status in ESFRI. Annika Sølvará, director of Research Council Faroe Islands, represents the Faroe Islands in ESFRI.

NordForsk

NordForsk is an organisation under the Nordic Council of Ministers which provides funding for and facilitates Nordic cooperation on research and research infrastructure.

The NordForsk Board includes representatives of the largest national research funding agencies in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, a representative for Nordic University Cooperation (NUS), as well as observers from the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Åland and the Nordic Council of Ministers. 

Annika Sølvará, director of Research Council Faroe Islands, represents the Faroe Islands in NordForsk.

EURAXESS

EURAXESS - Researchers in Motion is a pan-European initiative delivering information and support services to professional researchers. It supports researcher mobility and career development, while enhancing scientific collaboration between Europe and the world.

EURAXESS has Service Centres in 40 countries that serve mobile researchers.

EURAXESS Faroe Islands is part of the EURAXESS network. EURAXESS Faroe Islands has Service Centres and Local Contact Points in all public research institutions and in the industry.
