Physical, mental and social well-being
According to WHO, health is a state of physical, mental and social well-being and the absence of disease and infirmity. The area of research is broad and encompasses health services and, to a certain extent, social services.
Research can be descriptive, i.e. it explains the current situation regarding various phenomena of health and illness, health and well-being etc. Causal research, i.e. attempting to uncover the causes of phenomena of health and illness, is another major research area.
The likelihood that the Faroese people, due to centuries of relative isolation, are genetically homogenous, coupled with the accessibility of family trees and medical journals, makes genetic research into various hereditary phenomena in the Faroes a very interesting prospect.
