Nature is a source of great aesthetic and economical value

The prerequisite for rational management and sustainable exploitation of natural resources is a thorough knowledge of nature and the conditions that influence it. Research is the tool with which this knowledge can be obtained and the academic challenges within this area are abundant and diverse.

We exploit natural resources on land and at sea. The fish stocks in Faroese waters and fish farming provide a major contribution to commercial enterprises and exports nationally. Sheep and cattle rearing is important in Faroese agriculture and constitute a significant part of the Faroese diet, supplemented by birds and whale meat.

The sea around the Faroes is diverse. The ocean currents are important to the marine life around the Faroes and for global climate.

Prospects of finding oil in the Faroese sector are closely connected to knowledge of the geological conditions in the subsoil.

Examples of sub headings:  The ecological system of the Faroese region · Administration and utilisation of resources in the sea and on land · Production technology · Equipment and production systems for farming at sea and on land  · Destroying the planet · Climate change · Energy · The subsoil · Animal health
